Addicted to FB? Filipinos’ social media time spikes up during holidays

‘Tis the season to be jolly! ‘Tis also the season to spend more time on social media.

Filipinos are consuming more time looking at content on Facebook and Instagram now that Christmas season is just around the corner.

According to a report by the social media giant, Filipinos are spending two hours and 20 minutes on their smartphones every day, but this increases by up to thirty percent during the months of Oct to Dec.

There is also a 69 percent increase in mobile video posts on Facebook and 21 percent more in Instagram posts around Christmas time, ABS-CBN News reports.

We’re not surprised, it’s not hard to imagine the increase of chatter among Pinoys during this festive season.

What’s even more interesting?

According to a recent report by research firm TNS, Filipino users are spending 1.7 more times on Facebook than on TV, eight times more than on print, and 4.5 times more than on radio, and 4.5 times more than on radio.

Up to 58 percent of the respondents use Facebook to stay updated on current events.

Social media is a pretty effective marketing tool too. Three out of five respondents have bought something after learning about it on FB.
